About
Hi! I’m Annmarie
Welcome to my journey North
In 2022, I took a leap of faith and gave up my flat in London to solo travel around the world while working a remote job in marketing. My first stop? Scandinavia!
I quickly fell in love with the Nordics, but I still wanted to see more of the world. So I spent a year living a fully nomadic life: I hostel-surfed my way through Asia, fell in love with scuba diving, explored the night markets in Taiwan and marvelled at Shinto shrines in Japan. I eventually made my way south to New Zealand, which I road-tripped with a man I’d met in Norway.
Two years later, I’m back in Norway with that same man, still solo travelling and living a semi-nomadic lifestyle, but with a home base in Bergen to return to. Nowadays I spend most of my time hiking foggy mountains, rewatching Avatar the last airbender for the 50th time, and sipping chai lattes with a book in hand from the comfort of our cosy flat.
My love for adventure hasn’t changed, but I’m learning how to find wonder and awe in the small moments, in the beauty of settling down in one place rather the highs and lows of constant travel.
As a writer and someone who loves to romanticise her life, I started The Northbound Archives as a way to share my love for travel to the colder regions of the world, and for my new home in Norway. After all, it’s a pretty special region.
From chasing the Northern Lights to Arctic road trips and reindeer sledding, it’s been the greatest adventure of my life so far, and I’m excited to see where we go next. In the words of Elsa, the cold never bothered me anyway.
